Hasan Icanovic, the former commander of the 505th Knights Brigade of the Fifth Corps of the Bosnian Army, has been charged with crimes against prisoners of war in the Velika Kladusa area in late 1994.

According to the charges, Icanovic killed two prisoners of war and beat other captives with a rifle butt in the area of Latica Glavica in late 1994.

Witness and former NDWBAR member Djumir Ogresevic told the cantonal court of Bihac that members of his unit were captured in the Latica Glavica area in the municipality of Velika Kladusa in December 1994.

“When they captured us, one of the Fifth Corps soldiers asked us who our commander was. Huse [Huso Kujundzic] stepped forward immediately. I heard him ask how many members the squad had. After that he put the rifle barrel to his head and killed him. All of us were scared. I don’t know who the soldier was, because I bent my head and looked down,” Ogresevic said.

During cross-examination Ogresevic confirmed that he clearly heard the conversation, and that the Fifth Corps soldier didn’t have any speech defects.

Another witness was examined at this hearing, but testified in a closed session in order to protect his identity.

The trial will continue on July 15.
