Pejic testified at the trial of Muradif Salkic, a former member of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who has been charged with the inhumane treatment of civilian Nedjeljko Stankovic in the Tuzla area. Stankovic was detained in the detention unit of the Kozlovac prison on June 4, 1992.

Ivo Pejic was a former policeman with the police station in Mramor, in the municipality of Tuzla. He said at the beginning of the war he knew Nedeljko Stankovic, who owned a coffee shop. He said police premises were located on the upper floor of the coffee shop.

“In June 1992 we heard that Stankovic was arrested and mistreated in the Kozlovac prison in Tuzla. A couple of days later he was brought in front of our police station. I noticed that his leg was injured,“ Peric said. He said he drove Stankovic to the village of Tinja, where he lived.

Peric said that during the drive Stankovic didn’t tell him who injured him. He said Stankovic told him that a man named Gera saved him from further mistreatment and drove him to the police station.

Budimko Lovric, another former policeman from Mramor, said he drove in front of Pejic’s vehicle and accompanied Peric and Stankovic to Tinja.

“I hadn’t known Stankovic from before. When he was brought in front of the police station, I didn’t notice he was injured. However, when he exited the car upon our arrival to Tinja, I noticed that he was limping. While he was detained in Kozlovac, there were rumours going around that he was arrested by Roma and a boxer named Mure, who I didn’t know,” Lovric said.

The trial will continue on April 15.
