The State Prosecution explained its motion by the fact that there was a danger that Zaim Lalicic might flee, because he had Serbian citizenship, but, instead of requesting home detention, it requested the Court to ban him from leaving his municipality of residence.
Prosecutor Vladimir Simovic said that there was a danger that he might influence witnesses, so he also requested the extension of the measures, prohibiting him from meeting certain individuals.
The Defence of the indictee agreed with the proposal for extension of the measure related to meeting some persons, but it objected to the proposal to ban him from leaving his municipality of residence, adding that there was no danger that the indictee might flee, because he “has no links to Serbia apart from the fact that he was born there”.
Lalicic is charged with having raped and sexually abused a female in 1992 and 1993 and participated in mental and physical abuse of a detained civilian.
According to the State Prosecution’s charges, Lalicic committed those crimes as a guard and member of the First Corps of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, ABiH, in a detention facility situated in the basement of an unfinished residential building in Hrasnica.
He was arrested on December 8, 2014. He was then ordered into home detention and banned from traveling and meeting the witnesses.
The Court will render a decision concerning the extension of prohibiting measures at a later stage.
