The district court in Bijeljina ruled on Wednesday that the prosecutor did not present any valid evidence that the Merdzic participated in the killings.

“The trial chamber does not argue that Milosevic Ratomir, Milanovic Milovan and Jokic Miodrag were ambushed and killed in the village of Glogova near Bratunac on June 1, 1992. However, according to the evidence, there is no basis to believe that the defendant participated in that event,” the verdict said.

Presiding judge Mensur Dzonlic pointed out that prosecutor only offered testimony from one witness, who only mentioned the defendant by his nickname.

“Given that procedural laws do not allow someone’s conviction based on a nickname, the chamber did not take this evidence into account,” Dzonlic said.

The verdict can be appealed at the supreme court of Republika Srpska.
