The indictment was read and Prosecution’s introductory statement presented before the new Trial Chamber of the Cantonal Court.
Presenting his introductory statement, Prosecutor Sead Krestalica said it would not be difficult for the Prosecution to prove, by examining its witnesses and presenting material evidence, that Ceco committed the crimes charged upon him.
Ceco, former member of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, ABiH, who was allegedly accompanied by two another soldiers, is charged with having abused Serb civilians, who were digging trenches in Dobrinja neighbourhood on September 18, 1992.
“Ceco, who was wearing his military boots, hit injured party Slobodan Vucicevic on his chest area several times. Vucicevic fainted and got severe bodily injuries, like fractures of several ribs, due to those hits,” the indictment filed by the Sarajevo Cantonal Prosecution alleges.
Krestalica announced that the Prosecution would propose that Veselko Cuk be examined as an additional witness or that his statement be read, given the fact that the witness lived in Canada.
Sadik Hota, Defence attorney of the indictee, said that the Defence would not present its introductory statement.
Indictee Ceco, who is on trial according to the Criminal Code of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia, is defending himself while at liberty.
The first Prosecution witness is due to be examined on May 12.
