In November 2012 the Cantonal Court in Mostar sentenced Sabit Skampo, former member of the 44th Brigade with the Fourth Corps of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, ABiH, to six years in prison for crimes committed in Doljani village, Jablanica municipality.
Under that verdict, Skampo was pronounced guilty of having fired a hand grenade on Ivan Zaric’s house on July 28, 1993. Zaric died three days later due to injuries caused by the explosion.
The Defence of the indictee filed an appeal against the verdict due to violations of the criminal proceedings, incompletely determined factual status and violations of the Criminal Code. In its appeal the Defence called on the Supreme Court to either acquit the indictee or order a retrial.
The Supreme Court of FBiH partially upheld the Defence’s appeal and revised the first instance verdict, sentencing Skampo to five-and-a-half years in prison.
