Indictment Against Mitar Cankovic Confirmed
The Cantonal Court in Bihac has confirmed an indictment against Mitar Cankovic, charging him with war crimes against the civilian population in the Sanski Most area.

According to the charges, Cankovic, a former member of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, singled out Ismet Besic and took his wallet and personal identification card during the arrest and detention of civilians from Kijevo village, Sanski Most municipality, on September 19, 1995.
The indictment further alleges that Cankovic shot and killed Besic.
As per a request by the Cantonal Prosecution in Bihac, Cankovic was examined by a judge of the Higher Court in Belgrade.
If the indictee fails to appear at the plea hearing, the Bihac Cantonal Prosecution will propose that the case be referred to judicial bodies in Serbia.
