As indicated in its decision, the Court has transferred the case to a lower-level court after having considered the gravity of the crime and perpetrators positions, as well as other criteria for assessment of the complexity of the case.
The decision was rendered at a proposal by the Defence of indictee Husein Begic.
The indictment against Begic, former Commander of the Military Police Squad with the Fifth Corps of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Safet Kovacevic, Muhamed Anadolac, Abid Ljubijankic and Sabahudin Hafuric, former military policemen, was filed by the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
They are charged with having beaten and mentally mistreated 31 prisoners of war, members of the Republika Srpska Army, while escorting them from Cazin to Izacic border crossing in Bihac in order to exchange them.
Kovacevic has been held in custody since his arrest on October 25, 2012. The four other indictees were arrested on February 12 this year, when prohibiting measures were ordered against them.
