Local Justice – Ivcev and Urosevic: Two Years and Eight Months in Prison

The Basic Court of Brcko District pronounces Dimce Ivcev and Drazen Urosevic guilty of crimes against civilians in Brcko and sentences them to a total of two years and eight months in prison.

According to the verdict Ivcev and Urosevic, former members of the Republika Srpska Army, participated in crimes against detainees, who were held in Luka detention camp in Brcko. Under the verdict, Ivcev was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison, while Urosevic was sentenced to one year.

Ivcev and Urosevic have been found guilty of having participated in the torture, inhumane treatment, causing of suffering and injuries of bodily integrity and personal dignity of Bosniak civilians in Luka detention camp in Brcko.

The verdict says that, in June 1992 Ivcev and Urosevic caused severe suffering of a civilian in Luka detention camp by torturing him and hitting him with batons all over his body.

Ivcev was also found guilty of having caused severe suffering and bodily injuries to civilian D.S. in Luka detention camp on May 20, 1992, by torturing and hitting him with a rubber baton all over his body while examining him.

As this is a first instance verdict, the parties have the right to file an appeal with the Appellate Court of Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Prosecution of Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina has filed 12 indictments charging 21 persons with war crimes from mid-2005 to May this year.
