Local Justice – Brcko: Trial of Branko Pudic Begins

According to the charges, Pudic, former policeman with the Public Safety Station in Brcko and guard in Luka concentration camp in Brcko, committed torture and inhumane treatment and participated in the physical and mental abuse of prisoners. The indictment alleges that, after May 20, 1992 Pudic examined a detained civilian in the Luka concentration camp yard, held a cold weapon to his throat and hit two civilians with a police stick, causing the severe suffering of those civilians.It is further alleged that, while apprehending a civilian to the detention camp, Pudic hit him on his neck with a revolver handle. During May and June 1992 he kicked a civilian all over his body and hit him with a police stick on his head, which made the civilian faint.Amela Mustafic, Prosecutor with the Brcko District Prosecution, said that the Prosecution would invite nine witnesses and present a few pieces of material evidence with the aim of proving the allegations from the indictment.Dragomir Dumic, Defence attorney of the indictee, said that the Defence would discredit the allegations from the indictment by presenting material evidence and examining its witnesses.The trial is due to continue on April 10.M.A.
