Under the Prosecution of Una-Sana Canton indictment, which was confirmed at the end of October this year, Sovilj and Vekic, former members of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, are charged with having killed civilian Mehmed Hrkic in Bosanski Petrovac municipality on December 21, 1992.

“The indictees, who had automatic guns, met Mehmed Hrkic and Milo Vukelic in Osoje forest, Bosanski Petrovac municipality on December 21, 1992. They ordered Vukelic to go and kept Hrkic in order to speak to him. Hrkic then started running, calling for help. The indictees fired at least three bullets in his direction, causing him fatal injuries”, it is stated in the indictment.

Given that the indictees, who are currently living in Serbia, and also their attorneys have failed to appear before the Cantonal Court in Bihac, the plea hearing was indefinitely postponed.

Jasmin Mesic, prosecutor at the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office in Bihac, said earlier that indictees Sovilj and Vekic were interrogated through the international legal assistance service, and announced that the Prosecution of Una-Sana Canton will make requests for their custody and issuing of arrest warrants if they fail to appear at the plea hearing.Dz.Dz.
