After reviewing all the evidence presented during the first-instance trial of Ranko and Rajko Vukovic, and listening to additional evidence presentation proposals from the Prosecution and Defence, the Appellate Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has announced its decision to undertake a reconstruction of events.
“The Court has decided to undertake a reconstruction of events at the crime scene in Podklun village, Foca Municipality. Both the Prosecution and the Defence filed motions requesting a reconstruction. The reconstruction will be conducted at the crime scene in the presence of witnesses Bajro and Zahida Hukara and witness Pasana Sejfic. These witnesses were present at the crime scene when the murder was committed. The Trial Chamber considers that this will help produce a better understanding of the event,” the Chamber noted.
In early 2008 the Vukovic brothers were found guilty by a first-instance verdict, of the murder of two civilians in Podkolun village, Foca Municipality, committed in May 1992. Each was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment. Upholding the appeal filed by the Defence, the Appellate Chamber revoked the verdict and ordered a retrial. The retrial began in April this year.
The reconstruction is due to take place on May 18, 2009.
