In closing arguments at the retrial of the Bosnian Army’s former commander in Srebrenica, Naser Oric, the defence said that he should be acquitted of killing three Serb prisoners of war in 1992. Naser Oric’s defence asked the state court in Sarajevo on Friday to acquit the former Bosnian Army commander, saying that the prosecution had not proved his guilt at the retrial.

Naser Oric’s defence in his war crimes trial questioned the credibility of a witness who said he saw the Bosnian Army’s former commander in Srebrenica open fire on a Serb prisoner in 1992. The defence lawyer in Naser Oric’s trial at the Bosnian state court on Tuesday raised doubts about the testimony given by a witness who said he saw the Bosniak commander shoot a Serb prisoner.

The acquittal of Naser Oric, the Bosnian Army’s former commander in Srebrenica, has been quashed and he will be retried for allegedly killing three Bosnian Serb prisoners of war in 1992. The appeals chamber of Bosnia’s state court has overturned the first-verdict acquitting Naser Oric and his subordinate Sabahudin Muhic and ordered a retrial, the prosecution confirmed to BIRN on Monday.
