Former Bosniak Territorial Defence fighter Izet Arifovic, who was being tried for murdering three Serb civilians in the Srebrenica and Bratunac areas of Bosnia in 1992, has died.

Former Bosniak Territorial Defence fighter Izet Arifovic was sentenced to ten years in prison for murdering civilians in the Srebrenica and Bratunac areas in 1992, and Suad Smajlovic jailed for a year and two months for mutilating the corpses.

A prosecution witness testified that Serbs in the village of Zalazje in the Srebrenica area surrendered after an attack by the Bosnian Army led by commander Naser Oric in July 1992.
Prosecution witness Milan Jeremic told the state court in Sarajevo on Wednesday at the trial of three former Bosnian Army soldiers that Serbs in Zalazje surrendered after the village was attacked.

The state prosecution has filed an indictment against Izet Arifovic, Suad Smajlovic and Amir Salihovic, on suspicion of having committed war crimes in the Srebrenica area in 1992.
