Hecimovic said that a plea bargain was made after today’s hearing, and that it is expected to be reviewed on January 5 after the trial continues. He did not give any details of the plea bargain.

“The plea bargain was signed today and, after the hearing on January 5, we will bring the agreement before the court, and after that the court will decide on whether it will accept the plea bargain or not,” Hecimovic explained.

The prosecution told BIRN Bosnia and Herzegovina that it does not want to comment on the plea bargain until it is concluded.

Alisic is on trial for leaving Bosnia and Herzegovina in December 2013 to join the so-called Islamic State in Syria.

In December 2019, he was sent back to Bosnia and Herzegovina with another six individuals suspected of fighting for organisations that have been declared terrorist groups by the United Nations.

Of the others, Muharem Dunic and Armen Dzelko have already been sentenced by the state court to three-and-a-half years in prison each, according to plea bargains struck by their defence lawyers, while proceedings are ongoing against Jasmin Keserovic, Senad Kasupovic, Milarem Berbic and Hamza Labidija.
