The state court told BIRN Bosnia and Herzegovina that Senad Kasupovic’s trial will begin with reading of the indictment and presentation of introductory statements.

According to the state prosecution’s charges, Kasupovic left Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 12, 2013 and travelled to Turkey, then illegally crossed the Syrian border and arrived in Syria, where he spent six years until December 19, 2019.

The indictment alleges that Kasupovic used the name of Muatesim and participated, alongside other people from Bosnia, in terrorist activities, providing assistance and fighting for the Bejt Komandos Unit, which was later renamed El Aksa.

Kasupovic was flown back to Bosnia and Herzegovina together with six other people in December 2019. Once the indictment was filed and confirmed, he pleaded not guilty on April 8 this year.

Six other suspects were transferred from Syria with him. The trials in the case against Jasmin Keserovic and Armen Dzelko for the same crime began on May 4. At the beginning of their trials, the defence teams announced they would try to strike plea agreements with the prosecution.
