According to a statement issued by the state prosecution, it is assumed that a high number of human remains are at the site.
“The collected evidence indicates that about 1000 Bosniak victims, men and boys from the Srebrenica area, were shot at the dump site. Nobody survived the shooting,” the state prosecution announcement reads.
Since certain remains were transferred from the Kozluk site to other locations, the search for at least 200 more bodies continues.
The prosecution says a suspect associated with the mass killing at Kozluk was arrested recently.
The Bosnian state court ordered Srecko Acimovic into one month of custody. He was arrested in the beginning of December on suspicion of having participated in the Srebrenica genocide in July 1995.
The evidence collected from the exhumation will also be used at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). Investigators from the ICTY are among the officials currently present in Kozluk.
The exhumations will continue in the upcoming days.
