Bosnia Police Arrest Buzim War Crimes Suspect

Isakovic was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of having committed crimes in his capacity as a member of military police with the 505th Brigade of the Fifth Corps of the Bosnian Army, in former Radoc hotel in Buzim, which was used as prison, in 1994 and 1995.

He is suspected together with seven other persons who were arrested earlier.

As announced by the Bosnian state prosecution, several prisoners from the Bosnian Serb army and the National Defence of the Western Bosnia Autonomous Region, ND WBAR, were killed in the hotel-turned-jail.

“Eight captured members of the Bosnian Serb Army, one ND WBAR member and three civilians, ND WBAR sympathizers, were deprived of their lives in the prison. Civilians and prisoners of war were held in the prison unlawfully, while also being subjected to torture, rape and inhumane treatment,” the announcement said.

Six other suspects, Zijad Nanic, Esad Kudelic, Nedzad Bapic, Senad Salkic, Samir Isakovic and Hasan Mustafic, were arrested on April 21. A seventh, Vahid Bajraktarevic, was arrested earlier in the month.

According to the prosecution, Nanic was assistant commander for security with the 505th Buzimska Brigade of the Fifth Corps of the Bosnian Army, Kudelic was commander of a military police squad with the Command of the 505th Brigade, while the others were military policemen.

Husein Isakovic was arrested later because he was not present in Bosnia when the other suspects were arrested.

The prosecution will first question Isakovic and then decide whether to file a custody motion.
