Dzevad Dulic has been charged with the rape of a woman from Cazin in December 1995.

The witness, Zuhdija Malkoc, is a former member of the First Bosnian Brigade of the Bosnian Army’s Fifth Corps. He told the Bosnian state court that Dzevad Dulic was nicknamed “Vucko” and people rarely knew his real name.

Malkoc said he was in Beganovici near Cazin with his unit in December 1993. His unit spent one or two shifts there, and according to Malkoc, Dulic wasn’t present.

Malkoc said he remembered that a soldier with the same name was in Beganovici with him. He said he didn’t know the defendant well, but had always liked him.

Zaim Malkoc, another former member of the First Bosnian Brigade, said he went to school with the defendant. He said between October 1993 and the spring of 1994, the defendant was not in his unit and he heard nothing about the rape allegations made against him.

Zaim Malkoc said three men called Dzevad Dulic were in his region, but he only knew the defendant well.

Mustafa Beganovic also testified at this hearing and said he lived in the village of Beganovici with his mother when he was thirteen. He said he heard nothing about allegations of rape or abuse by members of the Fifth Corps, and said he didn’t know the defendant.

“The Fifth Corps did things in a cultured way, there was no abuse,” Beganovic said.

The trial continues on April 24.
