Salkic, a former member of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been charged with treating civilian Nedeljko Stankovic in an inhumane manner at the Kozlovac prison in Tuzla on June 4, 1992. Stankovic was being held at the prison’s detention unit at the time.

According to the charges, Salkic approached Stankovic and stabbed a knife into his left thigh, hit him on the head and chest with the same knife, and threatened to cut off his ear and kill him.

Tuzla’s cantonal prosecution said it would prove Salkic’s guilt.

Salkic’s defense said the defendant isn’t guilty, and that the attack on Stankovic couldn’t have happened on June 4, 1992. The defense didn’t provide any further explanation on this point.

Stankovic attended this hearing, but did not testify. The defense requested that the court postpone his questioning until the next hearing, due to his other commitments.

Bosnia’s state court had previously referred the Salkic case to the judicial authorities in Tuzla for further processing.

The trial will continue on March 18.
