“We consider that the four witnesses proposed by the Prosecution are relevant for clarifying the factual substrate of the indictment, because these witnesses stayed in Uzamnica detention camp,” said Trial Chamber Chairman Stanisa Gluhajic.

According to the State Prosecution’s charges, Goran Popovic, a former guard in Uzamnica detention camp, participated in the abuse, beating, torture and sexual abuse of Bosniak men and women, who were held in that detention camp in 1992.

Commenting the Prosecution’s proposal, Gluhajic said that it was not true that the Court did not allow it to examine one witness.

“You did not propose the mentioned witness in the indictment, but he was proposed by the Defence. You cross-examined him. Had you requested to examine him as your witness on that day, the Chamber would have responded accordingly,” judge Gluhajic explained.

At the last hearing held on December 3 the Defence completed the presentation of material evidence, while the Prosecution submitted a proposal for presentation of additional evidence.

The trial of Popovic began in June this year.

The first additional Prosecution witness is due to be examined on December 24.
