Court expert Zeljko Karan said, testifying at the trial of Hariz Habibovic, that he participated in the exhumation of one body in Stupari, near Kladanj, adding that it was determined, through a DNA analysis later on, that the person’s name was Ladimir Dragic.

“An examination of the body revealed that two of the left ribs were broken,” Karan said, adding that the remaining degenerative changes on bones that were noticed were caused either by the person’s old age or post-mortal status.

The court expert said that he could not speak about the direct cause of death.

State Prosecutor Dragan Corlija said that a report made at that location did not contain description of injuries in the rib area. The court expert responded by saying that rib fractures did not necessarily have to be visible from the outside.

Hariz Habibovic, a former member of reserve police forces with the Police Station in Stupari, is charged with having participated, in collaboration with two other persons, in the beating of Ladimir Dragic at the beginning of June 1992. Dragic received severe body injuries on that occasion. He committed suicide by hanging himself later that night.

The trial is due to continue on October 8.
