The Mostar Cantonal Court sentenced Vulic to ten years in prison for having killed three Bosniak civilians in Dretelj detention camp, near Capljina, in July 1993.

In its appeal the Mostar Cantonal Prosecution requested the Court to pronounce longer sentence.

Federal Prosecutor Slavo Lakic said that his written motion provided a detailed explanation of why the sentence was not adequate.

Defence attorney Irena Pehar requested the Court to either pronounce a verdict of release or order a retrial, because she considered that the proceedings and law were violated during the first instance trial, that the factual status was wrongly determined and that the pronounced sentence was inadequate.

The Mostar Cantonal Court pronounced Vulic, former guard and member of military police of the Croatian Defence Council, HVO, in Dretelj, guilty of having killed Omer, Izet and Hasan Duvnjak by shooting through a detention camp window from an automatic rifle.

The Supreme Court will render a decision concerning the appeals against the verdict at a later stage.
