At the beginning of February the Supreme Court of Republika Srpska accepted an appeal filed by the Defence and quashed a first instance verdict pronounced by the Doboj District Court in May 2013. Under the mentioned verdict, Dervis Cavalic was sentenced to five-and-a-half years, and Esad Cavalic to five years in prison.

Defence attorneys Vasvija Vidovic and Miodrag Stojanovic announced that, during the retrial they would examine six Prosecution witnesses “for reasons mentioned in the second instance verdict, which refer to the indictees’ status, and contradictions contained in witnesses’ testimonies.”

The Cavalic brothers are charged with having committed crimes against Serb civilians in their capacity as members of the Croatian Defence Council.
