Murat Tahirovic, head of the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide, said that the objective of this project is “researching the material and human damage from 1992 until 1995 in the Bihac area” in order to determine the losses of this municipality during the war in Bosnia.

“With this study we want to create the conditions for the extension of this project to the whole territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in order to conclude how much we lost, compared to another former Yugoslav country, which was not in the war. The aim of the research is to evaluate the war damage of the human and material losses and losses primarily related to the decrease of the economic growth. We want to conduct a comparison of Bihac to a similar municipality, which was back in 1992 at the similar level of the economic growth and was not in the war”, said Tahirovic.

He added that all the information about disabilities, different forms and consequences of war crimes, refugees and displaced persons, war migration of the population in the area of Bihac, will be listed during the project.

Regarding material losses, said Tahirovic, the consequences of the damage to the public institutions, enterprises and infrastructure will be explored on the movable and immovable assets.

Smail Toromanovic, adviser of the mayor of Bihac, said that the local authorities will support this project and submit all the required information.

“This is very important research for Bihac, because we will have all the data on the consequences of the war in one, valid document, which will show the extent of the human and material losses during the attack on Bihac”, said Toromanovic.
