Love, not Rape

Kadic said that he and the injured party were in love in the summer of 1992 and that they had sexual relations.

“I was in the military barracks. I was fed up. I went to Kula Banja and saw her… I waved my hand towards a place where I wanted us to go. She moved and walked beside me. When we came to the highway, she proposed that we go to Ravne. She took some hay from a hayrick, so we would not have to lie on the grass. She took her clothes off and untied my belt. We had sex, sat down and talked to each other, and then had sex again. We then stood up and put our clothes on,” Kadic said.

According to the indictee’s testimony, he then went back with the injured party, who carried his rifle.

“When I realized what was going on in regard to this indictment, I neither approached the injured party nor told her anything, although we met each other in passing. Had she been raped, she could have visited a doctor or OSCE, which dealt with such things, or killed me from the rifle, which she carried on our way back. I responded to invitations and gave statements to police,” Kadic said.

He said that he wished he had been in the courtroom during the injured party’s testimony, so he could have looked her in the eyes.

“I am sorry for not having been in the courtroom during her testimony, so she could have looked me in the eyes. She may or may not have hugged me. She loved me very much. I too had some feelings. She always says that she did not report me. I believe that,” Kadic said.

The Cantonal Prosecution in Zenica charges Kadic with having raped a female person in Visoko municipality on June 27, 1992.

The trial of Kadic is due to be continued on January 9, when the Cantonal Prosecution and Defence will present their closing statements.
