Stanisic Refused to Take Captives over

Vladimir Vidovic, former member of the Sixth Battalion with Zvornik Brigade of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, said that, following the fall of Srebrenica on July 11, he was on military positions in the vicinity of Petkovci village, near Zvornik, when unarmed men in civil suits suddenly appeared.
According to the indictment, the area was within the zone of responsibility of the Sixth Battalion commanded by Stanisic.
The witness said that two members of his Company took the captives, whose hands were tied, to the Battalion Command in Petkovci. One of them, Ivo Mitrovic, told the witness that Stanisic refused to take over the captives.
“Ostoja said: ‘Take them back’,” the witness said, conveying Mitrovic’s words.
Vidovic said that Mitrovic informed him that the captives were then taken to Grbovac Company.
Responding to questions by Defence attorney Milos Peric, the witness explained that the Grabovac Company was not part of the Sixth Battalion.
He said that Stanisic never gave them an order to search the terrain with the aim of capturing people.
Stanisic is on trial, along with Marko Milosevic, former Deputy Commander of the Sixth Battalion, for having participated in crimes committed on a dam near Petkovci, where about 1,000 men from Srebrenica were killed in mid-July 1995.
The trial is due to continue on Wednesday, September 25.
