Closed hearings represent the highest level of identity protection in The Hague Tribunal’s practices.

The presentation of evidence about the allegations that the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, which was under Mladic’s command, committed genocide against about 7,000 Muslims from Srebrenica after it had occupied the enclave on July 11, 1995, is ongoing at present.

RM-021 is the 135th Prosecution witness since the beginning of the trial.

Mladic did not attend the beginning of the hearing due to a visit by his family. His Defence attorney Branko Lukic completed the cross-examination of previous witness Emir Turkusic, who was member of a team, investigating a mine-thrower grenade explosion that killed and wounded tens of citizens in front of Markale, Sarajevo, in late August 1995.

Mladic is also charged with persecution of Muslims and Croats throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, which reached the scale of genocide in seven municipalities, terror against the local population in Sarajevo through an artillery and sniper campaign and taking UN “blue helmets” hostage.

Mladic’s trial is due to continue on September 2.
