At the trial of eight Bosniak fighters, the prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina read out a written statement of the late Mirko Andric, who with his Bosnian Serb neighbours was taken to the Silos camp in 1992.

“I saw them (the Bosniak guards) beat up five people. They skipped me and the elderly,” the witness statement read.

According to Andric, during his stay in the camp he lost over 40 kilograms and could barely move.

“Conditions in the Silos were unbearable… the cement floor, no covers. Guards did not let us go to the toilet. Some relieved themselves only after 40 days,” he said in the deposition.

Andric said he witnessed the beating of his neighbour in cell number nine. He described the prisoner as being beaten with a gun and fists, and being left covered in blood.

He was released after six months of imprisonment.

The prosecution charges Mustafa Djelilovic, Fadil Covic, Mirsad Sabic, Nezir Kazic, Halid Covic, Serif Mesanovic, Becir Hujic and Nermin Kalember with committing crimes against Serbian and Croatian prisoners in the Silos camp, the Krupa barracks and the May 9 school in Hadzici.

The trial resumes on August 22.
