This was confirmed by lawyer Nermin Vila who said that Bosnian lawmaker Mehmedovic, who was arrested by SIPA on suspicion that he took part in crimes against Serbs in Tesanj during 1992 and 1993.
Mehmedovic was arrested an hour and a half before giving a statement, which Vila finds suspicious. He added that Mehmedovic hasn’t yet been questioned by SIPA or the Bosnian prosecution, but that he expects no custody will be ordered.
According to Vila, in the criminal report filed to the Federal police a month ago, Mehmedovic said he had knowledge that Zubac killed a Bosniak civilian in Ilidza, Sarajevo in 1992.
Senka Nocica, Mehmedovic’s legal advisor, said that State prosecutor Vesna Ilic told her that he was supposed to be questioned about the criminal report.
The Bosnian prosecution did not wish to confirm whether Mehmedovic was supposed to be questioned today, nor whether they were investigating Zubac.
SIPA also refused to comment on whether the Director is involved in a war crimes investigation.
The Bosnian State Investigation and Protection Agency, SIPA, arrested former policeman turned MP Mehmedovic early on Friday morning in connection with allegations that officers he controlled during wartime abused civilian prisoners in the town of Tesanj in central Bosnia in 1992 and 1993.
SIPA also accused the Bosnian prosecutor’s office and chief prosecutor Goran Salihovic of obstructing its investigation.
They said that SIPA did was not given approval by the Bosnian prosecution to search certain locations, adding this was the first time that permission was not granted by the prosecution “in the history of war crimes investigations.”
The Bosnian state prosecution meanwhile confirmed that the arrest of Mehmedovic was not carried out with its approval.
