The Trial Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina accepts a proposal to examine Milorad Zivkovic as Milun Kornjaca’s Defence witness at the next hearing for crimes committed in Cajnice.
In April this year Zivkovic was sentenced, under a first instance verdict, to six years in prison for having committed crimes in Cajnice. The former Chief of the Public Safety Station in Cajnice was found guilty of having issued orders and personally participated in the arrest of Bosniak civilians from mid-April to the end of May 1992.
During the status conference the Defence of Kornjaca said that it wanted to examine Zivkovic at the next hearing.
Besides Zivkovic, the Defence will examine two more witnesses and present material evidence during the presentation of its evidence. The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina did not object to the presentation of the mentioned Defence’s evidence.
Kornjaca is charged with having participated in the murder of 28 detained civilians in the hunters’ house at Mostina in May 1992, after a member of the “Plavi orlovi” (“Blue Eagles”) paramilitary unit was killed.
The former Commander of the “Plavi orlovi” paramilitary unit is on trial for having persecuted Bosniaks from the Cajnice area.
Kornjaca originally stood trial together with Zivkovic and Dusko Tadic, but his case was separated from the case against the two other indictees due to his bad health. Under a first instance verdict, Tadic, former member of “Plavi orlovi” paramilitary unit, was acquitted of charges for crimes committed in Cajnice.
The trial is due to continue on June 12.
