The Defence attorney of suspect Lucic, who was arrested on November 17 this year, requested the Court to release him to liberty under prohibiting measures. The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina will render its decision at a later stage.

State Prosecutor Vesna Ilic said that, should he be released to liberty, suspect Lucic might flee to one of the neighbouring countries and influence witnesses and accomplices, while the public order might be disturbed as well.

“The suspect has the citizenship of Bosnia and Herzegovina only. However, he is facing a grave crime. This might be a reason for him to go to one of the neighbouring countries. He might interfere with the criminal proceedings and influence accomplices and witnesses,” Ilic said.

The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina is conducting an investigation against Lucic, who is suspected of the persecution, murder, detention and forcible movement of the Bosniak population during and after an attack on Gacko and the surrounding villages in 1992.

The Prosecutor said that Lucic, former Commander of the Territorial Defence in Gacko and member of the Crisis Committee and wartime Presidency of that municipality, participated, in collaboration with other persons, in a joint criminal enterprise.

Refik Serdarevic, Defence attorney of the suspect, said that Lucic “has done nothing that suggests that the custody measure would be grounded”, adding that none of the witnesses, who had been examined so far, mentioned his name in a negative context.

Suspect Lucic addressed the Court, saying that he “has not fled, because he does not feel guilty”.
