Block 7 of the Thermal Power Plant in Tuzla was supposed to be a once-in-a-generation project. It would have been the first major upgrade of a state-owned thermal power plant in Bosnia and Herzegovina since the construction of these electricity-generating plants more than 60 years ago.
But the whole project turned into an international fiasco for Bosnia and Herzegovina, which raises fears of large-scale and costly international arbitration. In this programme, we’ll discuss how the construction plan failed, why it will now take the authorities at least another year to prepare a new strategy, how much this will cost all of us, and if there will be electricity shortages. Another issue is that the small number of electricity producers leaves Bosnia and Herzegovina vulnerable to external attacks.
