The prosecutors will present their closing statement from December 5 to 7, while the defence will do the same from December 9 to 13, the tribunal said.

Both will then have the opportunity to comment on each other’s closing statements on December 15.

The prosecution and defence have the right to appeal against the decision. Mladic’s defence has previously requested, on several occasions, that the presentation of closing statements be postponed until spring next year.

Mladic is on trial for genocide in Srebrenica, the persecution of Bosniaks and Croats throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, which reached the scale of genocide in several other municipalities, terrorising the population of Sarajevo citizens and taking UN peacekeepers hostage.

He was arrested in Serbia in 2011 after having been on the run for 16 years. His trial began in May 2012.
