Milomir Vasic Acquitted of Charges

Vasic, a former member of the Bosnian Serb Army (VRS), was found not guilty of charges of ordering the killing of detainee Ahmet Huseinovic. Vasic was accused of issuing an order to have Ahmet Huseinovic taken to the front of the Sveti Sava school gym in Bratunac in May 1992, and then killing him by shooting him with his handgun.

In its explanation, the chamber said it was unquestionable that Ahmet Huseinovic was deprived of his life in a violent manner, but the evidence presented by the prosecution during the trial was insufficient to determine the identity of the perpetrator beyond any doubt.

Trial chamber chair Mensur Djonlic said the testimony and explicit allegations made by prosecution witness Sead Husic were not supported by material evidence or the testimony of other witnesses. He said his allegations were denied several times.

In his testimony, Husic had said the injured party was killed with a gunshot to the nape of the neck. A court expert’s findings indicated that Huseinovic undoubtedly died from gunshots to the right side of his lungs, while injuries to the victim’s skull were not mentioned at all.

Husic had also said he and Ekrem Gusic had to clean the blood after Huseinovic’s murder. During his testimony, Gusic said he cleaned blood after the murder of two other Bosniaks.

The prosecution has the right to file an appeal against the verdict.
