The district court in Banja Luka found Kusuran guilty on Monday of being part of a group of Bosniak fighters who killed two men called Ostoja Baltic and Bozo Indjic in August 1992 and burned their bodies.

“While cursing, Kusuran and the others then shot at and set on fire the home of Stojanka Vekic who managed to flee through the window with her daughter Snjezana,” said presiding judge Snjezana Kudric.

The judge added that the prosecution proved beyond doubt that Kusuran was in the group that killed Baltic and Indjic and tried to kill the two other civilians.

She added that the 12-year sentence fitted the crime.

“When determining mitigating circumstances, the court looked at how much time has passed since the crime and that Kusuran wasn’t charged again,” said Kudric.

The verdict can be appealed.
