During the trial of Iulian-Nicolae Vintila and Ramiz Avdovic, Vintila’s defense attorney presented a few documents issued by the State Commission for the Exchange of Prisoners.

Emir Kapidzic, Vintila’s additional defense attorney, presented orders, approvals and informative notes issued by the Commission for the Exchange of Prisoners of War in 1992.

The documents included an approval issued by the commission in August 1992, “approving the release of individuals on exchange.”

The content of the 20 documents which were included in the case file, provided in response to the prosecution’s evidence, was not individually explained.

Prosecutor Dzevad Muratbegovic objected to the relevance of the documents, and said he didn’t understand how they were relevant to Vintila’s case.

Vintila and Ramiz Avdovic are on trial for crimes committed against Serb civilians in the Viktor Bubanj military barracks and on the fifth floor of the district prison in Sarajevo. The Bosnian state prosecution alleges that civilians who were held in those facilities were subjected to suffering and torture and taken to other locations to perform forced labour.

The indictment alleges that Avdovic was the guard commander on the fifth floor of the district prison in Sarajevo and at the former Viktor Bubanj military barracks, while Vintila was a cook and guard in the former barracks.

The next hearing will be held on June 30.
