Ninkovic was found guilty of the inhumane treatment of six prisoners in the prison from May 1992 to March 1993. He allegedly punched them, kicked them, and beat them with a baton on several occasions.

“Taking the testimony of the victims, the eyewitnesses, as well as the material evidence into account, the court has determined that the defendant treated this group of people, who should have enjoyed special protections during wartime, in an inhumane manner. The court has determined that the sanction is proportionate to the gravity of the crime and the circumstances under which the crime was committed,” said trial chamber chairwoman Snjezana Banjac-Lopandic.

According to the verdict, Ninkovic is also obliged to pay 450KM for the trial costs, as well as a lump sum of 150KM. The injured parties have not filed any property claims.

The parties have a right to file an appeal against the verdict with the Supreme Court of Republika Srpska.

The Ninkovic trial began in June 2014.
