A protected state prosecution witness requested additional protective measures for Dzevad Dulic, who has been accused committing rape during the Bosnian war. After the witness’ request, the public was told to exit the courtroom.

S1 is expected to testify at the trial of Dzevad Dulic, a former member of the 510th Bosnian Liberation Brigade of the Fifth Corps of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He has been charged with the rape of a woman in the Cazin area in December 1993. He allegedly acted in collaboration with two other members of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The state prosecution asked to have the public removed from the courtroom, because the protected witness, known as S1, said her family wasn’t aware of the circumstances of the crime.

Judge Mediha Pasic said that in addition to excluding the public from the hearing, the witness had asked to testify from another room with her voice and figure changed. The state prosecution said this was the first time they heard about her request to testify from another room with her identity hidden.

The trial chamber didn’t provide any information about why the witness requested additional protective measures.

The trial will continue on April 10.
