The Bosnian state prosecution hasn’t requested an extension of custody measures for Bosnian state court judge Azra Miletic, who was arrested on February 25 on suspicion of accepting bribes. She is part of a state prosecution investigation into corruption in judicial institutions.
According to information provided by the prosecution, prohibitive measures for Azra Miletic would be requested instead.
During a hearing held before the Bosnian state court, prosecutor Dzermin Pasic requested a two month extension of custody measures for suspect Senad Sabic.
The prosecution didn’t file a motion to extend custody measures against the third suspect in the case, Ramo Brkic.
Miletic, Sabic, and Brkic are suspected of having accepted or given bribes with the intent of rendering a favourable decision in a separate case conducted against Brkic and Sabic at the Bosnian state court.
With regards to Sabic’s custody measures, Pasic referred to an official note by the State Investigation and Protection Agency. According to the note, Sabic had sent messages to witnesses from the detention unit.
Sabic’s defense attorney, Husein Music, considered this allegation unclear, and said that its aim was to “mislead the court.” Sabic asked to have the court confirm that he didn’t contact anyone but his attorney.
“I’m not even able to call my family to ask how my children are doing,” Sabic said.
Pasic said it was necessary to keep Sabic in custody, because certain witnesses were afraid of the “suspect’s nature.”
Music said this allegation was unfounded. He said Sabic had never been previously sentenced for any crime, not even a minor offense.
The trial chamber will render a decision concerning the state prosecution’s motion at a later stage.
