Djojic Incapable of Trial, Says Defense Expert

Djojic, a former member of the 102nd Brigade of the Croatian Defence Council in Odzak, has been charged with the rape of a woman in the municipality of Odzak in July 1992.

Neuropsychiatrist Muhamed Ahmic examined Djojic at the request of his defense attorney. The findings of his examination were read aloud at a status conference.

“Defendant Djojic suffers from post-traumatic stress with clear motor, specific, and intellectual deficiencies as a delayed result of a head injury, accompanied with post-traumatic epilepsy,” reads an excerpt from Ahmic’s findings.

In response to questions by Djojic’s defense attorney Kenan Ademovic, Ahmic said he evaluated Djojic’s neurological health on the basis of direct examination and reviewing medical documentation. He said Djojic’s condition reflected the consequences of trauma experienced during a car accident in 2000.

Ahmic said Djojic’s brain injuries were confirmed through a CT scan.

Prosecutor Miroslav Janjic asked Ahmic whether magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the best method by which to evaluate Djojic. Ahmic answered affirmatively.

Ahmic said injuries would not be missed by an MRI. He said there was no chance of improving Djojic’s mental health.

Janjic said the findings were incomplete, and asked the court to order an examination by a team of experts. The trial chamber accepted the proposal.

The next status conference is scheduled for April 20.
