The district court in Banja Luka on Monday found Nisevic and Beric guilty of killing two elderly civilians, Suad Sivac and Sulejman Garibovic, in the village of Trnopolje on June 9, 1992.

The victims’ bodies have still not been found.

“The court decided to trust the prosecution witnesses, who did not have a reason to testify falsely,” said presiding judge Snjezana Kudric.

“As far as mitigating circumstances are concerned, we have considered the passage of time, the fact that they are family men and that they have never been convicted before. The age of the injured parties was considered an aggravating circumstance,” Kudric said.

Nisevic and Beric were also ordered to pay more than 300 euro in court fees and trial costs.

They have the right to appeal against the verdict at the supreme court of Republika Srpska
