The Cantonal Prosecution charges Basic, former member of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, BiH, with having taken two civilians away without an authorisation in April 1993. Their burnt bodies were found a few days later.

The indictment alleges that Basic took Luka Sestan and Mirko Letic away from a house in Vardiste village, Zenica municipality, which Croat civilians used as shelter.

The indictee then handed them over to unknown armed persons at Kaldrma locality. According to Prosecutor Amra Ahmetlic, he treated them in an inhumane manner and caused suffering and pain to civilians, who were taken away without authorisation.

The Prosecution announced that it would examine 13 witnesses and one court expert, while the Defence announced that it would reveal its evidence presentation plans once the Prosecution had completed the presentation of its evidence.

Defence attorney Ramo Ajkic said that the Court of BiH refused to confirm the indictment some time ago, because the Prosecution of BiH did not have sufficient evidence and that the case was transferred to cantonal level later on.

The Prosecutor explained that an expert examination was requested and conducted in the meantime.

The trial is due to continue on October 20.
