Prosecution witness Slavica Markovic told the District Court in Banja Luka that fire was opened at her, her parents and brothers on their way back from Vasiljevici to Vrbanjci village, where they lived.

As she said, her mother and cousin were wounded on that occasion, while she and her brothers fled to the woods. Serb soldiers then transferred them from the woods to their village.
“Upon arrival, I heard my cousin Ljubica moaning and mentioning Slavo’s name. I knew that something horrible had happened, but they tried to hide it from me, because I was just a child,” Markovic said.
She mentioned that she did not hear who had shot at them or killed Slavo Vasiljevic.
According to the charges, on June 19, 1992 Zec killed Slavo Vasiljevic on his doorstep in Vasiljevici village, near Kotor-Varos, by shooting at him from an automatic gun.
Defence witness Ramadan Gerbic said that he knew Zec, as well as the killed man – Vasiljevic.
“I heard gunshots that day. I went to the frontline, which was about two kilometres away from Vasiljevici village together with Zec and a few other persons. Zec was with me on the frontline the whole time. We did not separate during the two following days either,” Gerbic said.
He said that Zec had a small-caliber rifle, but he could not remember what type of weapons the others had.
Witness Suvad Husic said that Zec came to pick him up after they had heard shooting. He said that they then went to the frontline.
According to the witness’ testimony, Zec could not have killed Slavp Vasiljevic, considering the fact that they were together the whole time.
Both witnesses said that the families of the indictee and the killed man were in friendly relations.
The trial is due to continue on May 20.
