Milko Sipovac said that he lived with his father Novislav in Buca Potok neighbourhood, Sarajevo until the beginning of the war. As he said, the witness went to Lukavica in May 1992, while his father stayed in their family house.

“In September 1992 Dragan Tesanovic told me that my father was killed in the military barracks. Later on I asked my neighbours, who too were detained, about my father. Tihomir Ivkovic told me that he saw my father in a prison cell, that he was injured and that his arm and leg were bandaged. He heard later on that my father died,” Sipovac said.

Ramiz Avdovic and Iulian-Nicolae Vintila are on trial for crimes committed in the barracks and Central Prison in Sarajevo. They are charged with having participated in the establishment and maintenance of a system for abuse of Serb civilians, some of whom died.

The State Prosecution alleges that Avdovic was Commander of guards on the fifth floor of the District Prison in Sarajevo and former “Viktor Bubanj” military barracks, while Vintila was a cook and guard in the former barracks.

Responding to questions by the Defence of indictee Avdovic, the witness said that his father was brought to “Viktor Bubanj” in late July 1992.

Second witness Vela Marinkovic said that she and her children left Dobrinja neighbourhood, where she had lived with her husband, at the beginning of the war. After that she found out that her husband Radoje was arrested and taken to “Sunce” building.

“In June or July 1992 I read in newspapers that he was sentenced for weapons possession and that he was held in ‘Viktor Bubanj’. Later on I saw him on TV,” the witness said.

She said that she did not have any contacts with her husband during his detention and that he was already dead when she received his letter.

“He was already dead when I got his letter. I received the letter seven months after he had written it. In his letter he wrote that he was cold and asked us to send him sweaters and food,” Marinkovic said.

The trial is due to continue on November 29, when three new Prosecution witnesses will be examined.
