Alagic’s Defence attorney Momo Ceric said that the indictee had informed him that “he will not be able to appear in court, because he cannot organise transportation from the Netherlands”, where he currently lives. The Defence attorney asked the Court to postpone Alagic’s plea hearing until next month.

Mladen Jurisic, judge of the Cantonal Court in Mostar, announced that the proceedings against Alagic would be separated from the case against Banovic and Granic.

Banovic, Alagic and Granic are charged with having committed war crimes against Bosniak civilians and prisoners of war, who were held in Dretelj detention camp, during 1993.

According to the indictment filed by the Cantonal Prosecution of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, they are charged with having beaten and mistreated detainees in Dretelj from July to September 1993.

The indictment alleges that Banovic and Granic were members of HVO’s military police, while Alagic, also known as Lav, was a policeman at the time.

The beginning date for the trial will be set at a later stage.
