The Trial Chamber found Muharemovic, a former member of 17th Krajina Brigade of the 7th Corps of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, guilty of the murder of two civilians in the village of Sljivari (municipality of Bosanski Petrovac).

The Chamber established that he, together with two members of the unit, took Vlado and Mika Sljivar out of the house, and then, while leaving the yard, fired at them for no reason.

Vlado, who was 92 at the time and his 91-year old wife, died on the spot.

The Trial Chamber cancelled the custody of the accused, which has been since July 5, and issued him with restrictive measures.

Before the verdict was passed, cantonal prosecutor Nazif Felic concluded in his closing argument that the guilt of the accused was proven beyond any doubt, while defence lawyer Salih Hodzic in his closing argument stated that Muharemovic was innocent, and that, as his client claimed, the crime had been committed by his companion Dzevad Dzenanovic.

The defence announced there is a possibility they may appeal this first instance verdict issued by the Cantonal Court.
