Court expert Ratko Kovacevic testified before the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the trial of four men charged with taking part in the Srebrenica murders and presented a report on the mental health of the accused Stanko Kojic.

Kovacevic said that a team of experts arrived at a conclusion that Kojic is a “paranoid schizophrenic”, who was in a state of “extreme emotional tension” in July 1995.

“The results of the tests show that he is paranoid, suspicious, has an inferiority complex and inner fantasies, which are all symptoms of schizophrenia. We have learned that Kojic is suffering from strange, illogical visions, often with religious themes”, said Kovacevic.

Kovacevic also claimed that Kojic could not have fully understood the situation he was facing in July 1995 in Srebrenica.

“For example, when the Srebrenica civilians were brought to Branjevo, he was told to fire, so he took the rifle and fired. He lost control and had hallucinations; he said he saw heads which changed size. He did the only thing he could”, said Kovacevic.

Stanko Kojic is charged by the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina along with Franz Kos, Vlastimir Golijan and Zoran Goronja, with genocide in Srebrenica by participating in the murder of more than 800 men and boys on Branjevo military farm in July 1995.

According to the charges, Kos, former Commander of the First Unit with the Tenth Reconnaissance Squad of the Army of Republika Srpska Main Headquarters, Kojic, Golijan and Goronja, members of that Squad, and that they jointly shot prisoners.

The trial will continue on February 7 this year.S.U.
