Djug Emin, a former guard at at “Adil Besic” barracks, where prisoners of war were stationed, said that indictee Mustafic was a clerk of the manager of the barracks.

“He was not a guard at the collection centre, he could not reach the prisoners of war, he did not interrogate the prisoners of war”, added Djug, who was a guard in the barracks from the middle of October until the end of December 1995.

According to witness Djug, during the period when he was guard, there were no civilians at the barracks.

The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina charges Mustafic, Mehura Selimovic and Adil Ruznic with crimes in Bosnian Krajina.

According to the charges, in the period from 1994 to 1996, Ruznic, Selimovic and Mustafic assisted in the detention of members of the Republika Srpska, RS Army and police and civilians in detention centres in Bihac, Cazin and Bosanski Petrovac.

The indictment alleges that the indictees physically abused prisoners while examining them. It further alleges that Ruznic was Assistant Commander for Security, Selimovic was Counter-intelligence Officer and Deputy Chief of the Military Security Section with the Fifth Corps of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, ABiH and Mustafic was military policeman.

Answering the questions during cross-examination of the State Prosecution, Djug said that prisoners of war voluntarily performed some works in the “Adil Besic” barracks or outside of it.

“I led the prisoners to unload humanitarian aid, they reported voluntarily”, said Djug, who testified in favor of indictees Mustafic and Ruznic at this hearing.

Djug added that he met indictee Ruznic in the barracks when he came to take statements from the prisoners of war.

“In addition to Ruznic, other security officers came to examine the prisoners and all of them had to announce themselves to the manager”, said Djug.

Suvad Cehajic, also a former guard at the “Adil Besic” barracks, said that indictee Mustafic was not a guard and that there was no way that he could “get to the prisoners”.

“He came once in the collection centre as a clerk” said Cehajic, who was a guard in the barracks from the end of July to the end of December 1995.

Cehajic also said that in “Adil Besic” barracks civilians have not been detained.

The continuation of the trial is scheduled for January 11, 2012. A.S.
