The State Prosecution filed its first indictment against Vlahovic, a former paramilitary, on February 24 this year. Under that indictment, he was charged with crimes committed against civilians in the same area covered by the “additional” indictment.
The second indictment, which contains 14 counts, charges Vlahovic with murders, taking people to unknown locations and the forcible disappearances of 14 people, as well as rape, torture, beating and abuse of civilians.
In addition, the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina charges Vlahovic with intentional wounding by firearms, setting clothes and victims’ body parts on fire and other inhumane acts.
The first indictment charges Vlahovic with murder, rape, and the physical and mental abuse of civilians committed in 1992 and 1993. Prior to the beginning of the trial against Vlahovic, the State Prosecution said that the indictment was “the most expansive one” it had ever filed, referring to the number of crimes included.
On February 23 the State Court confirmed another indictment against Sasa Baricanin, who is charged with crimes committed in Grbavica in collaboration with Vlahovic.
Baricanin, alongside Vlahovic, is charged with having treated civilians who were forcibly held in Grbavica in an inhumane manner by causing them physical injuries and suffering and robbing them in July 1992. The indictment alleges that they forcibly took three civilians away and killed them at an unknown location.
The indictment further alleges that Baricanin raped a woman, whom he held in an apartment, several times and allowed an unidentified person to rape her as well.
Vlahovic and Baricanin are being held in custody. Vlahovic was extradited to Bosnian judicial authorities in March 2010, after he was arrested in Spain, while Baricanin has been held in custody since February this year.
The indictment was sent to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for confirmation.
